STRATEGIC FUTURES COMPASS

Navigation Guidebook Under Deep Uncertainty

Has radical uncertainty made strategy impossible?

In a world shaped by accelerating disruption, growing volatility, and unprecedented complexity, traditional strategic approaches are reaching their limits. Leaders are finding it increasingly difficult not only to build strategy, but even to read the emerging possibilities within their environment.

Strategic Futures Compass provides a practical framework for navigating this new reality.

Designed as a decision-making compass for executives, strategists, and transformation leaders, it helps organizations regain orientation amid radical uncertainty and build the capabilities required to thrive in unpredictable futures. Rather than attempting to predict what comes next, the book offers a structured approach to nurturing four essential strategic functions: clarifying intent, enhancing robustness, enabling emergence, and sustaining a culture capable of evolving with changing circumstances.

Combining strategic foresight, systems thinking, and actionable leadership practices, Strategic Futures Compass translates complexity into meaningful strategic choices. It equips decision-makers with the mindset and tools needed to navigate ambiguity, create resilience, and unlock new opportunities in a constantly shifting world.

A practical guide for those who must lead when certainty is no longer available, this book is the result of a research work conducted in collaboration between Camille Gauthier, futurist and specialist in organizational strategy issues, the global network of strategy consulting firms Nextcontinent, and the ESSEC Management Research Chair directed by Professor David Autissier.

CAMILLE GAUTHIER

Camille Gauthier is a researcher, speaker, and consultant whose work focuses on the ways organizations act, make decisions, and adapt in response to the profound transformations shaping the contemporary world. Drawing on Futures studies, cultural studies, and the analysis of socio-organizational change, his work explores the conditions for organizational resilience, orientation, and transformation within increasingly unstable and complex environments. With extensive experience in emerging forms of management and governance, including agility, self-governance, sustainable development strategies, and new business models, he examines how organizations and individuals can anticipate, interpret, and navigate strategic futures. He is currently pursuing a PhD focused on the conceptual frameworks and practical tools that support this navigation.
